On Tuesday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Rivers State, Patrick Tonye-Cole, filed a petition against Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). An Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State is scheduled to render a decision on this petition.

Just two weeks have passed since the parties’ last written addresses and arguments. This is the judgment date.

Cole requests that the court order INEC to proclaim him the victor of the March Rivers governorship election.

He maintains that even after being nominated by the PDP for governor, Fubara continued to sign documents in his capacity as the State’s accountant general.

Among other things, he claimed that there were anomalies in the election.
