Kaduna State’s governor, Uba Sani, has stated that his administration will keep granting the state’s 23 local government areas financial autonomy for growth.
The governor made this statement on Monday while hosting the 23 council chairmen at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna, the state capital, as part of a formal visit.
Sani pleaded with the council chairmen to avoid using political, religious, or tribal allegiances when interacting with the populace.
He urged local governments for assistance in establishing lasting peace, noting that local government remained the most significant level of government because “it is the closest to the people.”
He claimed that by doing this, the people would be able to overcome the difficulties presented by the crises and the impending insecurity in the state.
Just then, the governor announced that his administration would collaborate on infrastructure development projects with local governments, adding that “we need to know what project will benefit our people most.”
The governor declared, “Our administration will maintain the financial independence that local governments in Kaduna State have enjoyed for the past eight years.
The time of purchasing goods and distributing them to the populace is over; local government chairmen should concentrate on development projects.
“Politics are no longer relevant; there should be no animosity toward any parties, religions, or ethnic groups in the projects. Our administration places the utmost importance on safety and security. To earn the trust of the populace, we’ll collaborate closely with the local government administration.
The use of intelligence gathering will be efficient. By providing infrastructure to all local governments, especially the rural local governments, our administration will give priority to the development of rural areas.
“We will use an inclusive strategy to carry along local government chairmen as key stakeholders in the rural development program. There will also be participation from women’s organizations, faith-based groups, and traditional leaders.

Abubakar Buba, the chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Kaduna State, said earlier in his speech that he and his colleagues were visiting in support of the governor.
Buba, who serves as the Lere LGA chairman, made the request on behalf of his colleagues for regular citizen engagement to improve the relationship between the public and the government.
In order for us to be on the same page and for you to be aware of what is going on at the local government level, he said, “We would appreciate for us to have a quality meeting.”
