Four personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have been dismissed, with 14 others demoted and 18 more punished over corruption charges after which they appeared before the Orderly Room Trial Committee of the Service.

This was confirmed in a statement in Abuja by the NIS spokesman, DCI Tony Akuneme, who explained that 4 other personnel who were accused were discharged and acquitted of the allegations, while one offender was compulsorily retired from the service.

Akuneme noted that two immigration personnel were redeployed to other locations while 11 others were issued warning letters, adding that 11 others are awaiting trial.

According to him, “the Comptroller General of Immigration is determined to rid the service of bad eggs, as he assured members of the general public that there are no sacred cows in the NIS.”

“He further said all offenders shall be appropriately sanctioned as he urged members of the public to be vigilant and support the Service to deliver more on its mandate by contacting the service for feedback, inquiries, and complaints on any of the NIS channels.”
