Sunday Andrew, a 35-year-old electrician, was charged in a Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja with stealing a plasma television and N18,000 in cash.

The police accused Andrew of criminal trespass, breaking into houses, and theft at Airport Road, Abuja.

The complainant, Mr. Boniface Chinedu of Lugbe, Zone 8 of Abuja, reported the case to the Trade More Police Station on August 17, according to the prosecutor, Mr. Stanley Nwaforaku, who testified in court.

According to Nwaforaku, the defendant unlawfully entered the complainant’s premises and broke into his home in Lugbe, Zone 8, without his permission.

He claimed the accused had taken the complainant’s plasma television, N18,000 in cash, petrol canisters, charges and some items.

Nwaforaku claims that while the defendant attempted to flee with the stolen item, he was apprehended and the stolen goods were taken from him.

The prosecutor claimed that the defendant made a confessional statement to police during their inquiry and added that the offence violated Penal Code Sections 348, 354 and 287.

Judge Mr. Aliyu Kagarko granted the defendant bail in the amount of N500,000 with a surety in the same amount.

He ruled that the surety had to live in the district where the court was located.

Kagarko postponed the case’s hearing until August 25.
