Akume allegedly flown to Germany for medical treatment

According to reports, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has taken a flight to Germany for immediate medical attention.

A top presidential source confirmed that the 69-year-old former governor of Benue State was flown out to the European nation around five days ago.

Akume was reportedly flown out for emergency medical care because the source revealed that he is presently ill.
“The SGF for Tinubu is currently ill and abroad. He was flown to Germany for immediate medical attention. He has been there for five days, according to the source.

While this was happening, it was noticed that Akume had recently been represented at events. The SGF was represented at the National Defence College (NDC) Course 31 graduation on Tuesday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services, OSGF, Alhaji Aliyu Shinkafi.

At the event, he pointed out that major obstacles to economic growth at the national level include income inequality, environmental impact, resource allocation, and vulnerability to global economic and political instability.

Remember that prior to his appointment by President Bola Tinubu as the SGF, Akume served as the Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs Minister under President Muhammadu Buhari from 2019 to 2023. From 2007 to 2019, he also served as the Senator for Benue North-West Senatorial District.

From June 2011 to June 2015, he served as the Senate’s Minority Leader.
