‘Clash of the Reds’ as Man Utd host Liverpool

Sunday football will witness another of many rivalry clashes between Manchester United and Liverpool at the Old Trafford Stadium.

As the season’s Premier League tourney is nearing its end with less than 10 games to be played, the battle for the top four and eventual league winner has been caught up in a rollercoaster of wins and losses as teams fight off the relegation zone and jostle for European football qualification.

Man United will somewhat be cautious of today’s match despite earning a 4-3 extra-time win over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinals last Sunday.

Erik Ten Hag’s men haven’t had the best of form in the league of late.

United have lost three of their past five league matches – Fulham (1-2), Man City (3-1) and Chelsea (4-3). They won 2-0 against Everton in early March before a 1-1 draw at Brentford.

However, Ten Hag may wish to use the same front three attack he deployed against Liverpool in the 4-3 win, with Rashford, Garnacho and Hojlund leading the pack while captain Bruno Fernandes sits behind.

A win today will boost their chances to qualify for European football and remain six points behind fifth-placed Tottenham.

For the Meyerside Reds, today’s fixture will surely be a ‘revenge’ game as manager Jurgen Klopp nears the end of his tenure at the club as he hopes to win the 20th domestic league title for Liverpool.

Liverpool, one point behind table leaders Arsenal, has lost only two matches; 2-1 at Tottenham and 3-1 at Arsenal – both away matches.

Nevertheless, Klopp’s charges have been in fine form with four wins out of their last five league matches and a 1-1 draw against Man City.

In their last two outings, the German jefe has maintained a front attack of Salah, Nunez and Diaz, with World Cup winner Mac Allister behind to support the trio.

While Man United has won 50 per cent of all league matches this season (15/30), the visitors have a good score of 70 per cent, winning 21 out of their 30 league fixtures.
