The federal government has urged Nigerians to get themselves fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and maintain all non-pharmaceutical preventive measures to prevent a fourth wave of the pandemic in the country as cases are surging in other countries.

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, made the call on Monday in Abuja during the update on the COVID-19 pandemic response and development in the health sector organised by the Federal Ministry of Health and other partners.

In his remarks, the Director General of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Ifedayo Adetifa, revealed that as of January 8, over 663 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and over 6.7 million deaths had been reported globally.

He added that three million new cases and 10, 000 deaths had been reported between December 26, 2022, and January 1, 2023.
