Abbas Tajudeen, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has urged Igbo leaders to look for channels of communication with the federal government in order to resolve their justifiable complaints.

Speaking at the opening of the Peace in the South East Project in Bende, Abia State, Abbas was the deputy speaker Benjamin Kalu’s idea.

He pointed out that the Southeast’s economic might notwithstanding, the region had suffered significant losses as a result of agitations.

The speaker asserted that prosperity and peace throughout all of Nigeria were inevitably linked to the Southeast region’s tranquilly.

Abbas bemoaned that the wave of insecurity “continues to cripple daily life and significantly paralyse socio-economic endeavours, in a region whose people are renowned for their resourcefulness and economic enterprise,” in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Musa Krishi.

According to Abbas, the Eastern area of Africa and Asia had the fastest-growing economy between 1956 and 1965. In fact, the South-East continues to lead in trade and commerce and is a major economic force in both Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.

“Igbo are known to be enterprising, resourceful, savvy, persistent, and peace-loving from Aba to Adamawa and Enugu to Europe. That is the Igbo people’s character. You are that person. Aba, Onitsha, and Nnewi, three of your cities, are among Nigeria’s most industrialised.

“Igbos own a significant portion of the major investments in many parts of Nigeria.” Your unquestionable contributions to the Nigerian economy come from imports, commercial ventures, and remittances from the diaspora, among other sources.

“The Igbo people have made significant contributions to the economy and all spheres of human endeavour, including academia, the creative industries, literature, and many more.”
