The Super Eagles’ performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final in Ivory Coast has earned praise from President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu said the Eagles showed tenacity and skill at the tournament even though they lost to the host country.

This was stated in a statement released on Sunday and signed by Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity.

After defeating the Super Eagles 2-1, the Elephants of Ivory Coast won the 2023 CAF African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to Tinubu, Nigeria has triumphed greatly both in the heart of Africa and globally.

The statement said as follows: “President Bola Tinubu commends the Nigerian Super Eagles for their resilient performance in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Côte d’Ivoire.

“President Tinubu recognizes the challenges the team consistently overcame with steadily improving performance as they advanced to the finals, and he commends the team, coach, crew, and entire management team for their hard work, diligence, and sacrifice to come this far in the tournament.”

“The President exhorts Nigerians to be cheerful, stressing that our tenacity, discipline, and will on the field of play earned us a tremendous victory in the hearts of Africa and the world.”

But the president urged Nigerians not to lose hope, saying, “Let this fleeting event not dishearten us, but unite us to work even harder.” The green-white-green banner unites us as a nation, symbolizing our resilience, joy, hope, duty, and unwavering love.

“To those beloved Nigerian youths who are playing football in their modest rectangles of play, drawing lines in the sand, and expressing their gifts in their communities—you can be our heroes tomorrow; never give up on your dreams. The goal of my administration is to realize dreams.
