Wanted suspect in murder of Nigerian man in India arrested four years later

Four years ago, in Nalasopara, Mumbai, a 35-year-old Nigerian man was murdered. One of the suspects in that case was captured by Indian police.

The Times of India reports that on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, a criminal branch officer revealed that the accused, 28-year-old Kancha, was discovered living in the same town while using a fictitious name.

Two people are currently being held in connection with the crime, while two more are still at large. Kancha, also known as Roshan Bechain Mandal and Ashfaq Mohammad Sheikh, was apprehended.

The fatal event occurred on October 16, 2019, when Joseph, also known as Chindiniju Amechi Wilson, was found dead on a road in the Pragati Nagar neighborhood of Nalasopara.

Four years ago, in Nalasopara, Mumbai, a 35-year-old Nigerian man was murdered. One of the suspects in that case was captured by Indian police.

Subsequent to the occurrence, other Nigerian residents of the area conveyed their indignation, leading to the destruction of parked cars and calls for the capture of those responsible.

Four persons were identified by the police during their investigation as possible suspects in the crime, and Nasir Khan was taken into custody. A charge sheet was then brought against him in court, an official from the Vasai crime branch (unit II) revealed.

The culprit, Kancha, alias Roshan Mandal, moved to Bengaluru six months after the incident and took on a new name, according to a tip that was given to the police. With changed physical characteristics, he was discovered living in Nalasopara as Ashfaq Sheikh.

The murder was connected to a drug deal, according to police authorities.
