In order to advance farther in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition in Cote d’Ivoire, President Bola Tinubu has urged the Super Eagles to play better.

The national team heard Tinubu’s message from Minister of Sports John Enoh, who chatted with the players on Wednesday night by Zoom from Abuja.
Enoh claims that the President was not overly pleased with the team’s performance in the group stage.

“I met with the President yesterday,” he stated. The President cornered me when I walked to the villa to get something else, and I told him that the Eagles had qualified, so that’s how we’re going to continue until we win the tournament.

He stated, “I should let the players know that while he wasn’t too happy with the last game, he knows they will make an even bigger impression on him now that they are out of the group stages.

“The President informed me of this, which implies that the President is genuinely observing your matches. Could you believe this? Additionally, the President is encouraging you and demonstrating his knowledge of the game since he is aware that there is a lot of caution during the group stage and that your performance will increase once you reach the round of 16.
“I recall that Egypt as a nation struggled to qualify in 2022 in Cameroon, but they managed to play in the finals.”

In response, team captain Ahmed Musa congratulated the minister of sports but also urged the president to attend a live game, citing the opportunity to inspire the players.

The Super Eagles and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will square off in the tournament’s round of 16 on Saturday at Abidjan’s Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.
