The Commissioner of Police in Edo state, Mr Mohammed DanMallam, said operatives of the command has arrested four men suspected to be members of the Boko Haram Terrorist group, who escaped into the state after perpetrating heinous crimes in the neighbouring Kogi State.
The suspects were arrested at their hide-out in Afuze, Edo North Senatorial District following a tip-off according to the commissioner.
On interrogation, he said one of the suspects confessed to killing 40 of his victims, while another confessed to escaping from Koton Karfi Prison in 2014, and also participating in an armed robbery in Ekiti in 2013.
He, however, stated the achievements recorded so far in the fight against crime since the inception of “Operation Puff Adder” in the state.
He further added that 34 suspects had been arrested in connection with armed robbery, and four others apprehended in connection with kidnapping, also 32 suspected cultists had been arrested and that 10 different arms, 215 ammunitions were recovered from criminals.
DanMallam argued that it was untrue that any life was lost in the clash by cult groups in Benin on Monday.
“We arrested two of them who are still with us and under investigation because they are from rival groups”, he said.
Regarding the suspects in custody, the commissioner of police said that they would be handed over to the Police in Kogi for further interrogation as their crimes were committed there.
